Direct 2.0 Rocket

Robert Block talks about Direct 2.0, or Jupiter 120 rocket, that on paper out performed Ares and why NASA stop the study.

I think the key words here is on paper, which may carry little weight in front of Congress (no pun intended).

NASA is probably determined to see the success of Ares, especially after encounter resistance with the whole program in general from both Congress and the President.

Ares aside, NASA could fall back on relying on SpaceX, who is at least attempting to build the necessary hardware to reach beyond Earth orbit (not to mention the Moon).
